If you have a chance try to visit. Linda Brindle's beaded work is gorgeous and must have taken months, probably a whole year to complete. Doug Brant's caligraphy is absolutely perfectly accomplished and his original subject matter is worthy of taking note. His very bright abstract of his beloved dog and sunflower give him a touching memory of a friend well loved. Gina Alexander's pieces show her to be influenced not only by the abstractist mood but also by her native roots. Aric Aguonie's drums are always an attraction whether painted or not and his cat nip, harvested from his organic farm is what every little creature called cat will be interested in. A new artist in the area is Mary Claus. Her oil paintings are very well executed and her subject matter--- moccasins, dolls, drums are beautifuly portrayed in lovely hues. Of course Kathy Aunger's ( I hope I have it spelled correctly ) dreamcatchers are always popular.
AJ Vandries showed his work last year and we all loved his beautiful colour and spirit-filled paintings. It would e distressing if this young man were to give up on his painting career because he has so much obvious talent.

Next up at the gallery will be the ABSTRACT SHOW in Oct. and we have 10 artists who will show work . That should be very intersting!

And then ends my career as a vountary "curator" in an art gallery. How very much I have enjoyed it . I never dreamed of doing such a thing and I must thank Evan Mortin and Paul McDonald for BAMBOZZALING me into it and mentoring me through it. Maril Swan will take over and she will undoubtedly have new and fresh ideas and I hope will enjoy it as much as I did.

I will always be grateful to Evan for his generosity in providing a space in the Heritage Centre for me personally to show my work. Evan allows these art shows free of cost to the artist, painter, artisan,--- whatever we call ourselves, because he so appreciates the talent of the folks in this area and is happy to do what he can to promote them and their work.

Gallery at the Heritage Centre features the Annual Native show

Photography show and Iana Theatre Company

I hope many people will come to see the beautiful photos now showing until July 29th. at the Tweed Heritage Centre Gallery. Sylvia and Gerry Heaysman have caught lovely pictures on black and white. Pauline Weber discovers a variety of subjects at which to aim her camera. Ted Rayner has stikingly framed his photos most of which are of bird and animals he encounters at his 6 month home at Gull Lake. Bev McConnell also captures loving animals and has a way with abstact which I love. New on the scene is Gabrielle Wilson who can bring a new vision out of an old, hardly discernable photo. In these times when so many of us are interested in genealogy and possess these old photos that require retouching we need to keep Gabrielle in mind. But her talent doesn't end there and I will be interested ot see some of her work which she creates on her computer by drawing.

A lot of activity is taking place at the Actinolite Church Art Centre. These talentd performers are billeted out among local families and we are becoming increasingly eager to see Tim Porter's "TWEED!" A NEW CANADIAN MUSICAL. The show is now open and runs until June 29th But the Reception is this Saturday June 5th from 2 to 4 pm and everyone is welcome to meet the artists and view their work. Laszlo Szilvassy has used all mediums throughout his art-filled career. One can view the wall of the Royal Bank in downtown Toronto to see the quality of his workmanship. Here we can view the photos of that work and of him doing the work. His personal collection which he is sharing with us for this show has rendered his home very bare. Paintings, models in wood, metals and soapstone for commissioned projects completed, photograghs of numerous famous people who were his subjects and finished works in bronze, and silver and stainless steel. This is a show not to miss.

Not only do we have Laszlo but Winifred-Mary Gutsell has delivered a number of her paintings which show us the vitality of her amazing spirit. She has just turned 92 and has many more things she wants to paint. A special one for the annual native show, if she can just find the right research material for it, is what is most pressing on her mind. We should have had a show for Winie's paintings alone and another for just Roberta's. That is, Roberta Fisk, another prolific artist who is well known in Tweed and Roslin and Belleville. She also is 93 and still able to produce work and encourage her group in Roslin to press on. Her work is also quite lovely and her humour and good spirit are a joy to behold and to try to emulate in my coming years.

I'm lookig forward to the children's choir at the Actinolite Arts Centre

The Madoc Festival is looming large and that calls for some painting time of my own. June 20th & 21st are the dates.

Maia's Forest Friends plus more

You will not want to miss seeing these delightful and exquisite works of art. We surely thank them for bringing together what has been very appreciated by all the folks who have come during this time to view watercolour and acrylic paintings, Fred's delicately carved wristwatch and lovely angel, along with Rob's compelling animals skillfully hewn out of single pieces of cherry or perhaps pine . However not everything was done with a chain saw. You must have noticed a gorgeous lamp with a beautifully and delicately carved eagle.

Come Oct when the Studio Tour will be on you will be able to go to Lucie's home and studio and possibly watch as she shows you (as she showed me) the intricasies of making her delightful and humorous beads and lovely jewellery.

Shirley's 3 fibre art pieces were loved as were Barry 's watercolours . I'll be surprised if two of them are still there when I arrive tomorrow. Of Course Jan is to be congratulated on the sale of 2 of hers . So we did well and are grateful to the artists who willingly show their work at this venue. Next week end another show will open to surprise and delight.

Have you seen the Latest?

Roely DeVries tells The Tweed News that Tim Porter, a former Tweed resident and cross- country actor is going to be producing 3 musicals at the T&AAC new Arts Centre .
